Your first visit begins with a review of your symptoms and medical history and a focused exam of your legs. In most cases we perform a painless venous reflux ultrasound, also called a duplex ultrasound, that maps the blood flow in your leg veins and checks for venous insufficiency. Based on the results, your board-certified vascular surgeon explains whether your leg symptoms are caused by a vein problem and builds a personalized treatment plan. Plan for about 45 to 60 minutes for this first vein evaluation.
A vein doctor, or phlebologist, focuses specifically on vein disease, while a vascular surgeon is trained to diagnose and treat conditions affecting both veins and arteries. Our office is staffed by board-certified vascular and endovascular surgeons, providing comprehensive care for conditions ranging from spider veins and varicose veins to peripheral artery disease and other complex vascular conditions - all in one location.
We offer minimally invasive vein treatments performed in-office, including radiofrequency ablation for larger varicose veins and sclerotherapy for spider veins and smaller varicose veins. Radiofrequency ablation uses gentle heat to close the diseased vein, while sclerotherapy injects a solution that causes the vein to collapse and fade. Most patients feel only mild discomfort during treatment and return to normal activity within a day or two. Temporary bruising or soreness at the treatment site is common and usually clears within a few days.
Not always. Many patients book directly with our office, while others are referred by a primary care physician or podiatrist. Some insurance plans require a referral for a specialist visit or coverage of a vein procedure, so it is best to check with your plan first. Our team can also help confirm whether a referral is required before your appointment.
